If something was missing in Facebook Chat,unlike Gmail Chat,was a Emoticon Box providing you various emoticons at a Mouse click and not to type a simile code every-time you wanted to insert it. But this issues would be no longer a problem, as Facebook has introduced a Emoticon box integrated into the Chat box which you can use while chatting.
With this Facebook has also introduced a new LIKE Emoticon, Which is symbolic of Facebook's Trademark LIKE button.
However Facebook still does not allow use of Standard emoticons in any other way except while using Chat on Desktop. If you put a simile code on Comments, Status Updates, Mobile app,etc it would be show just as the code and the user won't see the emoticon.
Personally i feel Facebook should refrain from allowing this emoticons to be available for comments, status updates,etc. as this practice would keep Facebook neat and clean.
Use of excessive HTML codes in Orkut scraps and status was one of the biggest cause of its decline as users were just not receiving the social experience they wanted and all was SPAM.
