Even as we are fast approaching
the release date and final announcements of the specifics of the next iPhone,
people can’t help getting excited about the great features that they are going
to get. Rumors still continue to be talked about by people, most especially by
the Apple fans. Among these is the speculation that the next iPhone may have
the Thunderbolt technology.
Overview of the Thunderbolt technology
Thunderbolt which is codenamed
Light Peak is an input output interface that is used to conduct different forms
of connections. This technology was developed by Intel but was brought to the
market by coordinating with Apple. As compared to other means of connecting
peripheral devices, the Thunderbolt is capable of connecting a wider variety of
devices and can transfer a larger amount of data at a faster pace. This input
output interface is already introduced in the latest MacBook Pro and now, it is
expected to come out in the next iPhone as well.
To date, in spite of
Thunderbolt’s amazing capabilities, it hasn’t surpassed the USB being the most
commonly used input output connecting device. Even if it is already present in
MacBook Pros, other companies are still not that enthusiastic to incorporate
this technology into their devices. But with Apple including the Thunderbolt in
the next iPhone, companies and consumers may just have a different point of
view on this technology.
What Thunderbolt Technology Can Do For The Next iPhone
With the iPhone 5, having the
Thunderbolt technology aside from the other rumoured features such as bigger
screen, faster processor, higher pixel density, an amazing camera, etc., the
next iPhone will certainly be the best smart phone in the market for a long
period of time.
The iPhone 5 will be having the
benefits that a Thunderbolt technology has like, as mentioned previously, the
capability to make a wider variety of connections. With this technology in
iPhone 5 data, video and audio transfer will be possible as well as network
data and power. Furthermore, data that has a large amount in Gb can be
transferred at a faster pace, compared to even the most advanced input output
peripheral today.

Challenges to Apple
However, for Apple to make the
integration of the Thunderbolt technology in the next iPhone notable, it has to
go through some challenges first. First, even if the Thunderbolt technology is
already successful in MacBook Pros, it may not be as easy for the iPhone unless
they will be able to make the Thunderbolt chip smaller so as not to compromise
the whole device’s dimension to accommodate this technology. Another challenge
is, Apple also has to come up with cables and adapters that interface also with
USB ports. Lastly, Apple needs to make sure that these cable and adapters has
to be produced at a more affordable cost that will be acceptable to iPhone
owners.
Final Words
As of today, the USB port is
still the more prevalent input output connection device but by incorporating
the Thunderbolt technology in iPhones which is among the most recognized and
widely used smartphone today, people will soon have a different preference,
shifting to the Thunderbolt technology as to the ideal input output peripheral
device.
And with the amazing
functionalities of the upcoming iPhone, none of these will be fully utilized
